Today was a special day. I made my way to the Grand Parade Square in Halifax to participate in a march for the protection of children!
The purpose of the march was to draw attention to the sexualization of Canadian school children. Awhile back a group of organizers (Kamel El-Cheikh and Mahmoud Mourra) decided to organize a cross Canada rally to protest the sexualization of children in Canadian public schools.
The initial initiative called the “1 Million March4Children” was a Muslim project but quickly caught the support of many who objected to drag shows in libraries, the use of books describing same sex relationships or depicting sexual acts between various peoples including masturbation and following a Sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) curriculum which includes things such as confusing pronouns, the ideas of sexual fluidity and an abundance of pride flags in schools.
A large contingent of Muslim peoples and concerned parents of various religious persuasion, and those with no particular affiliation, including members of the LGBT community who object to the “targeting of sex education” for children, and the removal of parental rights and consents regarding the “type” of education their kids receive showed up to voice their supports of their kids.
I will state here quite clearly I could care less about someone else’s consenting sexual activities, personally I don’t consider it my business. But I do object to the grooming of children and I strongly object to schools keeping secrets from parents.
Today a number of people spoke of their concerns, and I was able to capture a couple of videos.
The parental crowd was probably about five hundred or so shouting “leave our kids alone” with a couple hundred pride flag wearing counter protestors, I am not really sure what they were shouting.
However in fairness to the counter protestors, they were mightily encouraged to take the counter stand by large UNIONS and Government members of the NDP and Liberal membership. And also on the side of the pride folks mega
Government dollars are poured into their pockets for varied initiatives, so I suppose just on economic factories it would be reasonable to clutch a pride flag. I personally believe the Canadian government is using LGBT folks as a political wedge factor. That is not to say I do not believe their was a time in society when protection for LGBT people was important. IT was, not that many years back, when people could be blackmailed because of who they love. BUT that situation is long gone, same sex marriages was formally legalized in Canada in 2005. Do I think we need to dial back the pride ethos, yes I do, we could probably do with a Pride day instead of a pride month, and only the Canadian flag should be flown in schools and public places.
As far as I could tell there was no animosity from the parental support side, but I did notice a few alternative protestors, dressed all in black and appearing to try to intimidate the parents. I am sure the very strong police presence helped to keep the peace between the two opposing forces.
Honestly I truly do not think there was nearly as much discord as the legacy media or Government backed groups would lead one to believe. Sure there was at least one or two doofus in the crowd on both sides but really a little gentle dialogue would likely solve some problems.
Will the March have an effect, I certainly hope so, I think the confusion being injected in to the school system benefits nobody.
